Q: What is the importance of establishing counselling
services in a school?
Solution:
Education is a lifelong
process of growth and development which alters the human behavior and attitude
and enhances students’ knowledge, skills and abilities. During the process of
learning children undergo through various changes in and around them which
sometimes pose a threat to learning. Therefore, counseling by relevant
professionals is required in school because it helps students to harmonize
their abilities, interest and values. It provides
students with a safe and supportive environment to address their emotional and
mental health concerns. Having counselors available in schools allows students
to seek guidance, talk about their concerns, and develop coping strategies to
navigate through difficult situations. School counselors can identify and
address students' emotional and behavioral issues at an early stage. Counseling
services can help identify signs of bullying, substance abuse, or other risky
behaviors, and take appropriate measures to ensure student safety. It plays a crucial role in supporting
students' academic success. Counselors can assist students in developing
effective study skills, time management techniques, and goal-setting
strategies. By addressing these academic concerns, counseling services
contribute to improved student performance and achievement. They can help
students identify their interests, strengths, and aptitudes, and provide
information about different career paths, college admissions, and vocational
training options. It also facilitates group counseling sessions or workshops to
address social issues, promote positive relationships, and foster a sense of
community among students.
